At Riverview Animal Hospital, chemotherapy is an option we offer to our patients that have been diagnosed with certain cancers. Chemotherapy is a cocktail of medications which has the ability to kill cells that cause cancer.
Will chemotherapy make my pet sick? What are the common side effects?
Chemotherapy side effects in dogs and cats are not as evident as in humans. If side effects do occur, you may notice decreased appetite, vomiting and diarrhea. Hair loss does not usually occur in dog and cat patients.
How is chemotherapy given to my pet?
Chemotherapy is given to our patients via IV catheter. Your pet will have IV fluids placed, and will stay on them for a few hours after the chemotherapy medication is given.
What is the cost of chemotherapy?
If your pet is in need of chemotherapy, we can set up an appointment with the veterinarian to discuss the best chemotherapy protocol for your pet’s condition. Please contact us for more information.
